Winfrey was the very first recipient of the Television Arts & Sciences’ Bob Hope Humanitarian award. In 2002, she was presented with the award at the 54th Annual Emmys.
“The award, one of the highest honors presented by the Board, recognizes the contributions made by Hope, for more than half a century, to the growth and development of radio and television as a family medium and as a platform for political and social commentary.”
Others who have won the award include Bill Cosby, Danny Thomas, and George Clooney.
