3. LeBron’s Recruitment
After being named all-state as a sophomore, LeBron James was starting to get attention for his skills on the football field. Among those paying attention was Urban Meyer, then an assistant at Notre Dame. However, according to his football coach Jay Brophy, LeBron never really seriously considered the Irish’s offer. Upon Brophy asking if LeBron was interested in college football, the star gave the following response.
“He said, ‘Well coach, I’m 99 percent sure I’m probably going to the NBA. But I wouldn’t rule it out.’ He started laughing and he said, ‘No coach, I’m kidding. I’m gonna play basketball.’ I said, ‘All right, I just wanted to know.”
