Why Do we Have Daylight Savings Again?

We are sure by now you have different times showing up on your clocks all over the house – it’s agitating to say the least and don’t even get us started with that very precious hour of sleep we lost!

Out of all the odd things humans do, complying with the concept of daylight saving in today’s world is one that simply never ceases to amaze. It’s a simple enough idea and most people think it was adopted in order to help the farmers make the best use of the sunlight, which is just not true. Turns out, the idea was actually conceived by the Germans during WWI as an energy saving measure. Check out the video above that questions and explains the whole concept in depth.

So if daylight savings doesn’t help the farmers and since morning or night no longer plays role in energy conservation (actually raising the cost) and we have hundreds of things running in our houses regardless of the fact it’s sunny or not out – why do we continue to follow this concept unnecessarily? Plus, it’s not like night and days are much different in today’s society since most places have enough artificial light to keep things visible.

The clip above is courtesy of HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver; it is from of the program’s section entitled, “How is this still a thing?” If you haven’t seen the show yet, we highly encourage that you do! New episodes air at 11 EST PM on Sunday on HBO.

We hope you enjoy the hilarious video. Let us know how you feel about the daylight savings concept with a comment below!
