In 2013, a bill was introduced to legalize marijuana but had not passed. However, the city of Portland passed a city-wide law that would approve people over 21 to carry up to 2.5 ounces; using it in public is still a misdemeanor and no provisions are instated for selling, taxing and manufacturing it. Legalization activists are hoping to gather more momentum and hope to bring the bill for the 2016 election.
