Vanita Gupta is a civil rights lawyer that has served with the NAACP and most notably as the Deputy Legal Director of the American Civil Liberties Union. She has spent a great chunk of her career for improving the country’s attitude on policing, incarcerations, racial injustice, prison reforms, immigration law, and general civic improvements. Most recently, she has been appointed as the head of the Civil Rights Division at the Justice Department by Attorney General Eric Holder; this means that she will be the person in charge of the civil rights issues that pertain to the events that occurred in Ferguson, Mo.
