During his service, James Clapper was promoted nine times from 1963 through 1991. He was decorated with 13 medals and commendations including the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters, and a Bronze Star with two oak leaf clusters. His career blossomed in #6.
